Important Schedule changes for the New Year (updated: 13/12/04)
JANUARY
Due to commitments in Sweden and France during January, Dan & Christi's Balboa classes will be temporarily moved to Thursday evenings for a couple of weeks. Their regular weekly Lindy and Balboa classes will thus be combined into one evening. The format will obviously be different to usual with one Lindy class followed by a Balboa class. The evenings will then continue with social dancing until 11:15pm with the venue for the whole evening being St Michael's & All Angels Hall.
   Intermediate/Advanced Lindy from 7.30 to 8.30pm
Intermediate Balboa from 8.30 to 9.30pm.
   Social dancing til 11:15pm
The dates of these two special combined weeks are Thursday 13th & 20th January.
FEBRUARY
Dan & Christi will be away for the whole of February so all their classes are cancelled for this period. They will be touring Australasia and South East Asia with teaching engagements in New Zealand (Wellington & Christchurch), Australia (Melbourne) and Singapore.
MARCH
Regular weekly classes return again in March. Lindy Hop classes resume on Thursday 3rd March and Balboa night resumes on Friday 4th March.
Details of all these changes can be found on the Calendar pages.
A listing of workshops where Dan & Christi will be teaching can be found on their forthcoming Schedule.
New Prices starting Next Year (updated: 13/12/04)
The prices for our regular weekly classes will increase by £1 from the beginning of 2005. We have held our prices unchanged for over five years now. However, during this period our costs have slowly increased so we've finally had to raise our prices to keep pace with these costs.
The price changes apply to both our Lindy Hop and Balboa classes. The new prices are £6 for one class and £8 for two classes. On Balboa Friday's entrance after 9:30pm (just for the social dancing) will remain at £3.
We have updated all relevant info on the Classes pages and the Calendar.
Last Lindy Hop Class - Xmas Meal (updated: 13/12/04)
This Thursday 16th we will be going to a Spanish Tapas restauant after our class to celebrate the end of another year of classes. We've already done a big Turkey meal for Thanksgiving (a few weeks ago) so a Spanish meal will make a fun and delicious change from a regular Xmas meal.
There will only be one class from 7:30 to 8:30 then we'll all go over to the restaurant. This will leave more time for the meal. The class will be free for anyone who is also coming along to the meal afterwards.
We need to confirm numbers with the restaurant so if you want to come then please let us know as quickly as possible. We need to know if you are Vegetarian so that we can insure that the restaurant caters acccordingly. We have arranged for a set meal of Tapas that will cost £22 per person. This price includes Sangria, Wine, loads of Tapas and dessert & coffee. We used this Retaurant for our Xmas meal a couple of years ago and the food was excellent and great value for the money. We have the use of their private function room which makes for a great party atmosphere.
The restaurant is 5 minutes drive from the studios but we can easily arrange lifts for people that need one. Therefore if you're coming then please let us know if you will be driving or need a lift. The details for the restaurant are:
   La Copita
   63 Askew Road
   W12 9AH
Info about our classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Details of closures over the Christmas period (updated: 13/12/04)
Thanks to everyone who's supported us and helped make 2004 into another great year. We'll be taking our usual break over the Christmas period. Our weekly events/classes will be affected as follows:
Thursday classes - last one on Thursday 16th December,
resuming on Thursday 13th January (see news items above).
Balboa Friday - last one on Friday 17th December,
resuming on Thursday 14th January (see news items above).
We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who's come to our classes and events this year. We've had a great time and look forward to resuming again in the New Year. :-)
Details can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Thanksgiving Party - Photos now Published (updated: 26/11/04)
We've now published the photos from last week's special Thanksgiving Party at our regular weekly Balboa night. You can find them on the Gallery pages.
Find out more about Balboa Fridays and check our forthcoming schedule on Calendar pages.
Balboa Friday - Thanksgiving Special (Friday 19th November) (updated: 15/11/04)
This Friday we are having a special "Thanksgiving" dinner dance party instead of our usual Balboa classes. We are celebrating the American Thanksgiving holiday because Christi has been feeling home sick lately! If you didn't already realise - she is indeed from across the pond. ;)
Since most Brits have no idea what Thanksgiving is all about! We will therefore be giving thanks for the great Balboa community that we have here in London! :)
The format for the evening will be completely different to usual. There won't be any classes but instead we will be having a full "sit down" meal followed by social dancing. The meal will be a typical Thanksgiving meal which is very similar to our own Christmas dinners here in the UK. There will be roast Turkey and Ham together with typically American side dishes and veggie and vegan options too. Although it isn't necessary, you are welcome to bring food such as side dishes, salad, bread, desserts, or drinks.
Times will be similar to usual with the meal being served from 7:30pm onwards. Once the meal is over then we'll clear away the tables for social dancing from probably around 9:15pm. The evening's dancing will be kicked off by a SPECIAL SURPRISE guest band playing live music plus DJ'd music for the rest of the evening. The cost will be £7 for the evening.
Note: The date of Thanksgiving is actually 25th November but were are celebrating one week early. For full details of the venue please refer to the Balboa Friday page.
New Video Pages Published (updated: 15/11/04)
We've now made a new Video section available on our web site. We have loads of video footage from over the years but have started off with some clips of recent performances and events. The first three clips that we've published are from the 'London Balboa Festival' and 'Rebel Yell', both from last October, and 'Hop the Castle' from earlier this summer.
The video files are quite large in order to preserve reasonable image quality. A fast broadband internet connection is advisable for viewing these clips otherwise the download times will be quite long with ordinary dial up connections.
Check them out on the Video page.
London Balboa Festival - Photos now Published (updated: 10/11/04)
We've now published some great photos from the weekend. You can find them on the Gallery pages.
In addition, there are some supplementary photos that have also been published by the professional photographer on his web site at www.capitallifephotography.co.uk. You will have to log in as username 'balboa3004' and password 'festival' to view these photos.
Find out more about the London Balboa Festival.
Thank You (updated: 04/11/04)
The London Balboa Festival proved a great success so thank you to everyone who supported the event. We are now doing all the winding down stuff and catching up on our sleep. We've got loads of great photos from the weekend that we will be publishing shortly.
In the meantime we've published a taster of what's to come on the London Balboa Festival site.
New Course starting 4th November (updated: 04/11/04)
We will be starting a new course in the 2nd hour of our regular weekly Lindy Classes. The course is titled 20's PARTNER CHARLESTON and will start on 4th November.
Although not often seen, there's a lot of 1920's Charelston steps that can be done in social partner dancing. This course will take you through the basics of the Charleston and give you many different lead and followed variations. A good knowledge of Charleston can help you better understand the roots of Lindy Hop and how it evolved. It's also lots of fun too...
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
New Lindy Course starts 2nd September (updated: 25/08/04)
We will be starting a new course in the 2nd hour of our regular weekly Lindy Classes. The course is titled 'SLIDES AND SPINS' and will start on the 2nd September.
The new Slides and Spins Course will focus on adding a bit of style to your lindy by including slides and spins. We will work both on the technique of slides and spins, as well as how to add them in as individual variations and lead patterns.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Summer Break (updated: 17/08/04)
Please be reminded that we are still on our summer break. There are none of our regular weekly classes during the month of August. The dates of the break are as follows:
Thursday Lindy Classes - Last one on 29th July resuming again on 2nd September.
Balboa Fridays - Last one on 23rd July resuming again on 3rd September.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Special Guest Teacher for Balboa Friday on 23 July (updated: 21/07/04)
David Rehm, from Washington DC, will be in town on Friday 23 July and we have asked him to teach. He’s known for his authentic style and amazing slides and footwork. He is well respected in the Balboa community for his knowledge and study of the old film footage. We are very pleased that we have this opportunity to have him in London. This will be our last Balboa until September, and as such we want to make it extra special. There will not be a beginners Balboa class, instead we will spend some time watching some original Balboa footage and then David will teach a longer Intermediate class. The night will be as follows:
   7.30 – 8.00pm Balboa Videos
8.00 – 9.30pm Intermediate Class with David Rehm
   9.30 – 11.30pm Social Dancing
St Michael’s & All Angels Church Hall, Corner of Bath Road and the Avenue, Chiswick W4
No booking required, but the cost will be £8 for the evening.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Bill Borgida Teaching on Thursday 8 July (updated: 23/06/04)
Bill Borgida will be in town and will be our guest teacher for our Lindy Hop classes on Thursday 8 July. For those who missed him last time, he focuses on connection and was a massive hit. Instead of having 2 classes, he will teach one 2 hour class aimed at Intermediate Advanced dancers. The cost will be £10 for the session.
   Thursday 8 July 7.30 – 9.30pm
   Arts Educational School
   14 Bath Rd
   London W4 1LY
   Near Turnham Green tube station
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
No Balboa Fridays for the next 2 Weeks (updated: 08/06/04)
We will be away for the next two weekends teaching in Paris and Edinburgh. Coincidentally, St Michaels Hall is unavailable on these dates anyway. Regrettably Balboa Fridays are therefore cancelled on 11th and 18th of June. We resume again on 25th June and will then continue uninterrupted up until our summer break. The last one before the break will be on the 23rd of July.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Guest Teacher for Lindy Classes - Thursday 17 June (updated: 08/06/04)
Sinclair Ang from Jitterbugs Singapore will be teaching Lindy Hop on Thursday 17 June. He will be teaching our regular Int Adv class with Christi for the first hour, and will be teaching a lesson on musicality for the second hour. Sinclair has been teaching with the infamous Sing for more than 2 years, and has been performing with her Lindy Hop performance class for longer. When we visited Singapore 2 years ago, we were impressed with his dancing and enthusiasm. We are excited at the opportunity for him to share his love of the dance.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
New Lindy Course starts 24th June (updated: 08/06/04)
We will be starting a new course in the 2nd hour of our regular weekly Lindy Classes. The course is titled 'LEAD & FOLLOW - THE OTHER PERSPECTIVE' and will start on the 24th June.
The Lindy partnership is made up of two distinct roles, which require different types of motor skills. This course is designed to explore connection from both the leaders and followers perspective. It offers advanced dancers the chance to learn some of the motor skills required in the opposite role, while giving improver/intermediate dancers a chance to refine their own part in the dance. The course will focus on exercises to help you identify your centre as the main instigator for movement, and how this relates to leading and following.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Balboa Workshop with Joel and Alison - Saturday 24 July (updated: 08/06/04)
We are pleased to present a Balboa Day with Joel and Alison Plys from San Diego. Many of you may remember Joel from the workshop in December 2002. He is one of the few Balboa dancers who actually had the honour to learn directly from Maxi Dorf. Joel and Alison are the force behind the Balboa Rendezvous, and are currently part of Ryan and Jenny's new performance group in California. They have a wealth of knowledge to share with you on this day.
The workshop is aimed at the Intermediate Advanced Balboa dancer. You must know and be able to freestyle all of your basic Balboa and Bal swing moves, including come arounds, transition step, cross overs, and throw outs. Although time may be spent to refine these moves, they will not be taught from scratch. There will be four hours of workshops, with a break for lunch. The total cost is £30 for the day, which does NOT include lunch. Numbers will be strictly limited, so booking is essential:
Registration from 10 am
Workshops 10.30 - 16.00 (lunch at 12.30)
St Michaels and All Angels Hall
Corner of Bath Rd and the Avenue
Chiswick W4 1TT
To book, contact Christi by E-Mail or call 07971 781 171 and send cheque payable to 'Lindy Circle Productions' to 7 Wilton House, 1 Alexandria Rd, London W13 0NP.
Summer Break during August (updated: 08/06/04)
We will be taking our usual summer break again this year. There will be no regular weekly classes during the month of August. The dates of the break are as follows:
Thursday Lindy Classes - Last one on 29th July resuming again on 2nd September.
Balboa Fridays - Last one on 23rd July resuming again on 3rd September.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Balboa Intensive Workshop - Saturday 14 August (updated: 08/06/04)
Many of you have asked if we could offer some kind of intensive Balboa workshop in London one weekend. We are therefore considering running one on Saturday 14 August provided there is enough interest. This would be 4 hours of classes geared at improving the quality and style of your Balboa. We would like to show you the 'choices' you can make in your Balboa, and also provide individual feedback about your dancing. The workshop would therefore be for the experienced Balboa dancer, as we do not intend to teach new moves.
The likely venue would be the Arts Educational School. Please let us know if you are interested in this. We will only go ahead with this workshop if there are enough people able to attend.
Please let Christi know if you are interested. Contact her by E-Mail or call 07971 781 171.
Special Guest Teachers This Week !!! (updated: 02/06/04)
We are pleased to present Jim Cruzen and Margie Adams as guest teachers for our Lindy Hop and Balboa classes this week. They were teaching with us in Germany last weekend and are stopping over in London for a few days on their way home to the USA.
Margie & Jim are based in San Diego and have been dance partners since 1999. They own and operate 2toGroove Dance offering lessons in both San Diego and North County. With more than 25 years of dance experience to draw on, their true love is teaching social dance. They are versed in many forms of swing and ballroom with their specialities being LINDY HOP and BALBOA. Combining their dance knowledge of motion study with their love of jazz, they have developed a highly musical & creative style all their own.
On Thursday they will be teaching the first Lindy Hop class from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Dan & Christi will continue teaching the current choreography course in the second class from 9:00 to 9:45pm. On Friday they will be teaching both the Beginners and Intermediate Balboa classes. Dan & Christi will be there and taking care of the DJing, etc (times on Friday remain as normal). Prices on both nights will be £7 for one class or £10 for both classes.
Details of these classes can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Web Site Performance Improvement !!! (updated: 02/06/04)
In recent months the speed of the web site had gradually slowed down due to a combination of increased usage and technical difficulties. This caused problems for many of you last week when we published the 'Hop the Castle' photos. The web site suffered a temporary overload and response times were very slow.
We have now resolved the underlying technical problems and have made a substantial performance improvement. The web site is now responding quickly again and pages are in fact loading faster then ever before. You should now be able to view the recent photos from 'Hop the Castle' without any problem. Should you still encounter any problems then please let us know...
Checkout the photos on the Hop the Castle 2004 Gallery page.
This Week's Classes !!! (updated: 26/05/04)
We'll be away this weekend teaching at Boogie Bären in Munich, Germany. Thursday's (27th) Lindy classes proceed as normal. Balboa Friday (28th) also goes ahead but we'll be having Shona & Twan stand in for us as guest teachers.

If you've got any good pictures of your own then please send them in and I'll add any notable ones to this gallery.
Checkout the photos on the Hop the Castle 2004 Gallery page.
E-Mail Problem !!! (updated: 18/05/04)
We returned from our annual Lindy camp 'Hop the Castle' this Monday to find that our e-mail server has been down since last Thursday. We won't have received any e-mails you sent us during this time.

We're off to 'Jumpin at the Woodside' this Friday for Frankie Manning's 90th birthday Party. This weeks Balboa Friday has therefore been cancelled. We will return next week on Friday 7th of May. Our Lindy Hop class this Thursday is not affected and will go ahead as usual.

Schedule changes for March/April (updated: 22/03/04)
Dan & Christi's travels continue with teaching trips to Sweden, USA, and France in forthcoming weeks. Our regular weekly classes will be affected as follows:
Lindy Classes - There will be no interruption to our Thursday classes with the current choreography course continuing. Shona & Twan will be standing in for D&C on the 1st & 8th of April.
Balboa Friday - SHAG COURSE with Paul & Natasha
We're pleased to announce that Paul & Natasha will be standing in for us the next 4 weeks. They'll be taking the opportunity to teach a series of Shag classes instead of our usual Balboa classes. Shag is another original swing dance that emerged during the same era as Lindy Hop and Balboa. In our opinion, Paul & Tasha are probably the best Shag dancers in the UK. There won't be a class on April 9th (Good Friday) as we're unable to use the hall. Dates as follows:
    26th March - Shag Course (Week 1)
2nd April - Shag Course (Week 2)
9th April - CANCELLED (Good Friday)
16th April - Shag Course (Week 3)
23rd April - 2nd Birthday Party (see item below)
Unless mentioned above all other classes proceed as usual.
Details of these classes and our full schedule can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Balboa Friday - 2nd Birthday Party with the Alan Elsdon AllStars (updated: 22/03/04)
Balboa Friday has now been running over 2 years so we're holding a special party to celebrate the event's 2nd Birthday. To make sure it's a really swingin' affair we've booked the 'Alan Elsdon All Star Jazz Band'. This is the same band we had for Christi's MA Party last year where they played a fantastic set for swing dancing. Alan is a respected and popular member of the British jazz scene so this is a real scoop to have them play for our party. Tell your friends and come along and make our 2nd Birthday one to remember.
Choice of either Balboa or Shag class from 7:30 - 8:30pm (Balboa with D&C in St Micheal's or Shag with P&T just around the corner at the Arts Ed). The first of the band's two sets will be at 9:00pm with dancing till 12:00pm. Note: Price increased to £10 for this night only (to cover extra band costs).
Details of the venue can be found on the Balboa classes page.
New Beginners Course with Shona & Twan (updated: 22/03/04)
These classes will take place on Thursday evenings in the same venue as used for our Intermediate/Advanced classes. This means that beginners can now also come along and learn too. The Beginners course will be taught by Shona Smith & Twan van Beers and starts on the 15th of April.
To book call Shona & Twan direct on 020 8995 7544 or 07985 040 299 or email shona@lindycircle.com.
Full details can be found on the Lindy Hop Beginners page.
New 'Fast Choreography' course beginning 18th March (updated: 10/03/04)
Following on from our recent fast lindy course we're now teaching a piece of choreography. The music that we've chosen is 'Life Goes To A Party' from the 'Swing Kids' soundtrack. The routine will be mainly fast partner Lindy but will also include a Jazz section and an air step or two. Anyone who learns the piece will get an opportunity to perform it at a major Lindy event during the summer. We will rotate people during the classes so you don't need a partner to learn the routine.
Details can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.
Schedule changes for March (updated: 01/03/04)
Dan & Christi will be away a lot during March teaching at Pink City Balboa Festival (France), La Santa (Lanzarote), and Ramsberg Savoy (Sweden). Our regular weekly classes will be affected as follows:
Lindy Classes - No classes on Thursday 11th March.
Balboa Friday - Balboa Night is cancelled on both Friday 5th and 12th of March.
Unless mentioned above all other classes proceed as usual.
Details of these classes and our full schedule can be found on the Classes and Calendar pages.

Details of Balboa Friday can be found on the Classes page and the Calendar.

Hop The Castle 2004. (updated: 05/02/04)
We have now opened bookings for Hop the Castle our annual Lindy Hop weekend held at Kinnersley Castle on the weekend of 14-16 May. Now in it's 6th year, this event has become popular for it's friendly atmosphere, top flight teachers, small uncrowded classes, and fantastic dancers. This year's teachers are Kevin & Carla (USA) and Hasse & Marie (Sweden).
Over the years the event's reputation has grown and Hop the Castle has become increasingly popular. We usually sell out quite quickly so you should book promptly if you want to maximize your chance of getting a place.
Full information for this year including the on-line booking form can be found on the Hop the Castle pages.
Checkout photos from previous Hop the Castles on the Gallery pages.
