Live Music This Friday 17th July (updated: 14/07/09)
This weekend is the Mickey & Kelly Workshop so we'll be kicking it off in style with live music from the fantastic HOT CLUB DELUXE.
This band played for us in May and went down a storm so I've got them back again. They play in the style of 'Hot Club de France' with two guitars, double bass, and violin. Hot Club de France featured the legendary Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli creating a unique style of Jazz sometimes referred to as 'Gypsy Jazz' or Gypsy Swing'.
The line up of Hot Club Deluxe includes some truly brilliant musicians making them the best band of this style that I've ever heard. They will play a wide range of standards at various tempos suitable for both Lindy Hop and Balboa. You can find out more about them and sample a few tunes here on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/hotclubdeluxeuk
Please refer to the calendar listing for details Calendar pages.

Venue Change During August (updated: 09/08/07)
Our Friday classes and social dance night will be in a different venue this month. Our regular venue St Michael's Hall is unavailable during August due to redecoration. The 10th 17th & 24th August therefore go ahead as follows:
These three Fridays will be held at the Pilot pub in Chiswick. This pub has a very nice separate function room with a decent wooden floor. The room is smaller than our regular venue but opens out directly onto a very nice decked beer garden. This outside space will be lovely if the weather holds out and the pub does nice food too. The pub is just 3-4mins walk from Gunnersbury tube and rail station. Here's the full address and map link:
   The Pilot
   56 Wellesley Rd
   Chiswick
   London
   W4 4BZ
   Map
For those coming by car; it's easy to find and there's plenty of easy street parking on Wellesley Road (free after 6pm). For those on public transport; Gunnersbury tube and rail station is just a few minutes walk away. It's on the Richmond branch of the District line just one stop further along from Turnham Green.
There's only one room at the Pilot so we're unable to run our usual classes in parralel. The class times are as follows:
   7.30 to 8.30pm - Lindy Hop Intermediates
   8.30 to 9.30pm - Balboa Intermediates
   9:30 to 11:00pm - Social Dancing
Prices remain the same at: £6 one class / £8 two classes / or just £3 after 9.30pm
Details of schedule changes can always be found on the Calendar pages.

There are no classes or social dance this Friday. Our regular venue St Michael's Hall is unavailable plus Dan and the rest of the team are away at various different events.

Change of Venue for Friday 15th & 22nd June (updated: 07/06/07)
Our regular venue St Michael's Hall is unavailable during the Bedford Park Festival. Rather than take an enforced 3 week break I've managed to find another nice venue to plug the gap for a couple of weeks. The 15th & 22nd June therefore go ahead as follows:
VENUE
Those two Fridays will be held at the Pier House on the riverbank at Chiswick. The Pier House at Chiswick Pier has a lovely hall with splendid views of the Thames downstream towards Hammersmith and Old Chiswick. The entrance faces onto the riverside piazza (next door to Pissarro's one of Chiswick's better know restaurants). The Hall is on the ground floor and has French doors opening onto an apron next to the towpath. Here's the full address and map link:
   The Pier House
   Corney Reach Way
   London
   W4 2UG
(Streetmap or Google Map)
For those coming by car, it's easy to find being just off Hogarth Roundabout on the A4 and there's easy parking on Pumping Station Rd.
For those on public transport you can still go to Turnham Green tube station. Whilst you could walk from there its far quicker and easier to catch an E3 bus from right outside the station. It's about 12 stops south to where the bus terminates at Edensor Road (New Chiswick Pool). From there you walk down Corney Reach Way to arrive at Chiswick Pier. Here's a link to relevant the E3 route map.
Other possible routes are by mainline rail from Waterloo to Chiswick station where you can again catch the same E3 bus. Alternatively the 190 bus from Hammersmith to Richmond passes the west end of Edensor Road on the A316 (Burlington Lane).
FORMAT
There's only one room at the Pier House so we're unable to run our usual classes in parralel. The class times are as follows:
   8.30 to 9.30pm
   Balboa - For Intermediates
   8.30 to 9.30pm
   Balboa - For Intermediates
These classes are followed by social dancing from 9:30 to 10:45pm.
Prices remain the same at: £6 one class / £8 two classes / or just £3 after 9.30pm
Details of schedule changes can always be found on the Calendar pages.

This Friday's classes are cancelled as Dan and the rest of the team are away this coming weekend.

Friday 27th April: Special Classes with LILA DESATOFF
Lila Desatoff will be joining us as our very special guest teacher. She will be accompanied by Dan and will be teaching the technique, styling, and variations of her late husband the great Willie Desatoff. Willie was one of the greatest Bal dancers of all time and Lila had the pleasure of dancing with him more than anyone. She has the greatest appreciation of how he felt to dance with and will aim to get this across during the classes. She has a wealth of useful tips and insight for both leaders and followers.

This is a rare opportunity for UK based Bal fanatics to learn directly from Lila. So don't miss this week ...come along and show your appreciation for one of the world's best Bal followers. New Beginners & Improvers Bal Classes Starting 3rd Feb (updated: 24/01/06)
We are continuing with Balboa and Lindy Hop classes combined into one evening. However, from February onwards the choice of classes on offer changes. The Intermediate Bal class is quite a good standard and we recognise that it can be difficult for beginners to reach a good enough level to join the intermediates. We are therefore introducing a new system of three levels of Balboa at Beginner, Improver, and Intermediate levels.
The new Improver class should serve as a better stepping stone to help people to learn and practice the fundamental techniques and moves that are required before joining the Intermediate level. The session for beginners will be run more like a tutorial and is open to anyone regardless of prior experience. The Intermediate Lindy Hop class continues as before with all classes an hour long and scheduled as follows:
   7.30 to 8.30pm
   Balboa Beginners (downstairs)
   Lindy Hop Intermediates (upstairs)
   8.30 to 9.30pm
   Balboa Improvers (downstairs)
   Balboa Intermediates (upstairs)
These classes are followed by the usual social dancing from 9:30 to 11:00pm.
We have yet to update the classes pages of the web site but details can always be found on the Calendar pages.
