Lindy Hop / Bhangra show on 7th July (updated: 30/06/00)
The Lindy Circle Performance Group feature in 'Chakkar' at the Paul Robeson Theatre on Friday 7th July. The show's title 'Chakkar' is an Indian word meaning 'Circle' that represents the synergy between the music and dance of asian and western cultures.
The show is a collaborative arts venture of The Lindy Circle and Madhurang who are an asian dance group based here in London. The programme comprises song and dance of various styles including; Lindy Hop, Kathak, Charleston, Bhangra, Jazz, Filmi, Tap, and Hip Hop.
Each group will present their own pieces before joining together for a collaborative piece. This final piece demonstrates that although superficially very different, there are in-fact some surprising similarities between Bhangra/Filmi and authentic Jazz dance.

Rockin' in Rhythm play C Jam Swing on 27th June (updated: 19/06/00)
The first time we heard this band was over a year ago when they were playing on a street corner in their hometown of Brighton. They sounded fabulous then and they've been steadily developing a reputation for themselves playing venues such as the Royal Festival Hall last weekend. We went along to hear them and had such a great time that we decided to book them for C-Jam Swing on Tuesday 27th June.
Anyone who came to the last band night at C-Jam will appreciate the special atmosphere that we create on these band nights. Don't miss out this time, its going to be another great evening of fabulous SWINGIN' music. Entrance £7 on the door. Band on stage 9.15pm. Club till late.

The Lobel Swing Band - UK Tour 2000 (updated: 26/05/00)
We got our first taste of tour managing this week with the 'Lindy Circle Productions' organized 'Löbel Swing Band' UK tour. We flew the band over from Sweden and arranged four gigs for them to play over 5 days:
Saturday 20th May - Hop the Castle
   Monday 22nd May - 100 Club (LSDS)
   Tuesday 23rd May - C-Jam Swing
Wednesday 24th May - Oxford (OSDS)
The tour proved to be a great success with some dancers even turning up for all the gigs. Special thanks to Simon Selmon (LSDS) and Les & Nicky Jones (OSDS) for agreeing to book the band on the Monday and Wednesday nights respectively. This was the first time the band had visited England so it was a rare opportunity to hear one of the finest swing bands in the world.
We were especially proud to have the band play at our own two events 'Hop the Castle' and 'C-Jam Swing'. Both these gigs were really special and we have received loads of superlative compliments to pass onto the band. We've now formed a strong friendship with the band and look forward to working with them again in the future. So if you came to any of these gigs, thank you for supporting us in our efforts to bring you the best in swing music.
Hop the Castle 2000 (updated: 26/05/00)
Thanks to everyone who came to our annual Lindy camp held at Kinnersley castle over the weekend of 19th-21st of May. The event featured international teachers Sing Lim from Singapore and Bruno & Veronique David from Toulouse France. The music was supplied by 'The Löbel Swing Band' who we flew over from Sweden especially for the event. We had a fantastic weekend and have already started to dream up ideas for next year! If you have any good photos from the event then please send them to us and we'll publish them here on the site.
Check out details of this event on our Events pages.
CD Review (Jennie Löbel & Swing Kings) (updated: 10/05/00)
We've finally got round to reviewing one of our favourite CDs for our music reviews page. We went to the band's home city of Stockholm earlier this year specifically to hear them play live. We heard both the 'Tommy Löbel band' and 'Jennie Löbel & Swing Kings' line-ups play on two different nights. They made such an impression on us that we invited them to play at C-Jam Swing and our annual Lindy camp 'Hop the Castle'.
Read the review of this CD on our Music pages.

The Lindy Circle perform at Prague Dance Festival (updated: 01/05/00)
Ten members of The Lindy Circle Performance Group went to the Czech Republic this Easter to take part in the Prague 2000 Dance Festival. We were there for just over a week and performed in theatres on three different nights. The rest of the time we loafed around the city and tried to get Prague swinging. The group received an 'Honourable Mention' award for our performances at the festival. We will post some photos from this event here soon.
See our Performance pages for more details about the group.

C JAM Swing (New Weekly Swing Club) (updated: 21/02/00)
We've got together with Swingland to launch a new weekly swing dance club in London. It will be every Tuesday night starting on the 7th of March. The opening night coincides with the 1st anniversary of Swingland so we've got 'Seymour's Jump' to play the live music and celebrate in style. In subsequent weeks the music will be supplied by DJ's Groove Juice Special & Smartie playing really swingin' music from the 30's to the present day. Their will be a Swing dance class every week at 8pm. The teaching will be shared between the Lindy Circle's Dan & Christi Guest and Martin Ellis & Jane Eliot of Swingland. C JAM swing is at Wessex House, 1a St. Johns Hill, London SW11 (Directly opposite Clapham Junction station).
See our Events pages for all the details..
Dawn Hampton (CD Release Party) (updated: 21/02/00)
The 'Release' party for Dawn Hampton's CD was on 20th February at Dance Manhattan Studios, New York. We got hold of a pre-release copy of the CD a couple of weeks ago and played a track at the recent Valentines Hop swing party. We introduced 'Straighten Up And Fly Right' by offering to buy a drink for the first person who could name the artist! Jane Eliot finally came up with the right answer after a few wrong guesses from various other people.
We've reviewed 'Life Is What You Make It' on our music pages and you can find out more about Dawn Hampton and her CD on her new web site at www.dawnhampton.com.
See our Music pages for the review of this CD.
